Architect's Chair | 2025

The design was created for the Buildner – Architect’s Chair #3 international competition. There was no binding, a chair had to be designed, the “architect’s chair”.

Extract from the concept description of the competition:

The design was inspired by the fundamental relationship between the forest and man since the beginning of time. Besides the beauty of the forests, they also have a spiritual significance that helps people to find natural born inner peace and harmony. The chair articulates the relationships between nature, human biology and the design of the built environment. The design method is based on the biophilic design’s principles by using natural analogues of objects, materials, colors, shapes, sequences and patterns found innature, manifest as artwork, ornamentation in the furniture. Some elements of the furniture evoke elements of the forest: the slender, dense legs of the chairs like a random series of tree trunks, the soft leather seats like autumn leaves, the floating layers of the armrests like tree foliage that let the sunlight filter through, the cylindrical backrest like birds’ nests or animals’ sheltering burrows. The chair’s arrangement is playing with light: leverages varying intensities of light and shadow that change over time to create shadow effect conditions that occur in nature. Sustainable and eco-friendly materials play a pivotal role in creating spaces that mimic nature. The chair’s strucure is made from innovative 100% recycled plastic, and the upholstery made from sustainable vegan bamboo leathers. The statical model of the chair stucture: four strengthened legs under the seat at the corners bear the weight, and provide stability. All the other slender legs are suspended and shorter with 1 mm. The armrest element is fixed to the rigid seat plate. The floating layers of the armrest are divided by spacers.
